What is Private Medical Insurance?
Private Medical Insurance (PMI) is made to take care of private healthcare expenses for 'acute conditions' that occur post-insurance commencement. PMI brings various coverage levels and premiums to satisfy a broad range of customer needs. Customisable options are available, such as the kinds of treatment covered, the extent of coverage for these treatments, the venue of your healthcare, and the share you might agree to pay towards the treatment cost, also referred to as 'the excess'.

How to Choose the Right Policy
Coverage Limits: It's important to understand any coverage limits associated with the policy. This includes things like maximum payout amounts, co-payments, deductibles, and any restrictions on certain treatments or services.
Policy Type: It is crucial to align the benefits offered by the policy with your specific healthcare needs. This means carefully evaluating what treatments and services are covered under the policy and if they align with any pre-existing conditions or potential health risks.
Premiums: Ensure the premium payments fit within your budget.
Types of PMI
Individual or Group
If you are applying for an individual policy, you will need to provide some information to the insurer. If your employer offers you access to a group PMI scheme, this typically does not ask employees to declare their medical history.
Full Medical Underwriting
All PMI companies will offer the option of full medical underwriting where you will be asked to give details of your medical history. With your consent, the insurer may write to your doctor for more information but they do not do so in every case.
Moratorium
Some insurance providers may offer PMI policies that use moratorium underwriting. This means you do not need to tell the insurer about your medical history when you apply for the policy. If you claim, however, your insurer might ask for medical notes.
Put yours and your family's health and care needs first
Investing in health insurance is a proactive step to safeguard your healthcare. By selecting private medical insurance you are prioritising your health care needs.
